Blog: Distance May Day? Challenge accepted!

29.5.2020

The corona virus pandemic which has disturbed this spring in many ways, also caused headaches to the May Day celebrants by how could we celebrate with social distancing in mind? Also we in the Board pondered could we arrange some events and of course we could! The result was May Day themed Disco(rd) Tuesday and May Day picnic from our homes. The overall atmosphere during the events was good and we had many participants. We all could join from our own sofas, so the attending was easy! During the events we also had few quizzes and competitions: music and fun facts quiz and also bingo. Prizes were given to all winners from these competitions. Congratulations again to the winners!

Our member associations had their own events during the celebrations. It has been excellent to follow all happenings! Traditionally May Day for BBA students has included the business graduate caps, picnics with sparkling wine and of course BBA-proudness! These were still visible this year. All around Finland different remote events were had. These included sitsit and even traditional parties with social distancing twists. Doughnuts were eaten without licking our lips and different competitions were had in social media. It was really nice to see how creative our members were and events were arranged even with short notices! Finally, even the traditional Finnish May Day weather (snow, believe it or not), didn’t hinder this year’s celebrations! Though hopefully next year we can again celebrate May Day with the traditional way with no limits!
