If you are laid off due to corona virus
16.3.2020

Measures have been taken to slow down the corona virus epidemic. This affects many of our members’ workplaces and many employers have had to lay off their personnel. Lay-off means discontinuing both work and pay temporarily while the employment contract itself is not terminated.
During a lay-off you will be paid unemployment allowance. In case you are laid off, the first thing to do is to register as a jobseeker at TE Services. Registration can not be done retroactively and unemployment allowance can only be paid for the period you have been a registered jobseeker. You should also note, that those who are laid off are also required to fill in ”I’m looking for full-time work” when registering as a jobseeker. This is a formality, but it is a requirement for applying for unemployment allowance.
Send your first application for earnings-related unemployment allowance to KOKO-kassa in their eService after being laid off (and being a registered jobseeker) for at least two whole weeks. If your lay-off is shorter, send in your application after your last day of being laid off. Applying for unemployment allowance is always done retroactively for the lay-off period that has already passed. You can find more specific instructions for applying unemployment allowance here: https://kokokassa.fi/en/instructions-temporarily-laid-off/. Take a look especially at instructions concerning attachments you need to send in with your first application.
You can calculate the amount of your earnings-related unemployment allowance by using KOKO’s allowance calculator. Use your monthly gross salary as basis for calculation. This gives you a rough estimate.
In case you haven’t yet been a member of KOKO for 26 weeks and accumulated the employment condition, you should apply for unemployment allowance from Kela.
Please note that being laid off doesn’t require notifying or contacting Tradenomit. TE Services and KOKO-kassa or Kela will take care of all matters regarding your unemployment allowance. However, you can contact our unemployment security counseling if you have further questions. We would prefer that you contact as by email at unemployment@tradenomi.fi
Being laid off doesn’t affect your membership at Tradenomit. You have access to all our services and other member benefits as usual!
